An architectural internship is a philosophy. This idea begins with the desire to design and build buildings beyond the textbook drafting. The act of entering the IDP program speaks volumes about how the desire to learn all aspects of architecture is a priority. This gesture is one of many steps in learning the skill of design and construction in architecture. Those of use with the desire to be creditable architects are best facilitated through the education of employers in the importance of getting experience in all area of architecture. An architectural internship should be a method of employment where a senior architect passes on his or hers knowledge, experiences, and method of architecture to facilitate independent problem solving and creative networking to generate great architecture. The technical knowledge is a vital part of this large picture but not isolated in materializing this spectacular dream. Create.

I believe that great buildings can add strength to the community as well as give hope to more positive life experiences for all involved. Excellent craftsmanship gives pride and a desire to pass on these skills and knowledge to others. To interact and teach the less experienced is the greatest lesson an employer can give an employee in this internship position. To be involved in such a rewarding product is a luxury we all deserve to be part of. Pride.

To me, architecture is everything but drafting. It is the purpose and product behind this tool. Intern should not only understand Auto Cad and drafting, but more importantly the orchestrating behind this symphony of consultants, construction, clients, and products. Our days of hand drafting are coming to a close with the technologies within our reach. These innovations should be embraced for as technology progresses, so does our profession. New, faster, more accurate and efficient methods of creating construction documents are at our fingertips. Encourage.

An Architectural Internship should be focused on educating the employer on the importance of the big picture of architecture including, but not limited or new architect achieving a positive progression in this career. I believe that people are the most efficient and productive when working with our passions. I would like to see the passion in architecture. If the employers let the Architect be the Architect, beautiful ideas will happen. Grow.
