Music to Our Existence

To approach any concept about architecture, we should always keep in mind that we are dealing with an universal language. Like a child, we should learn to develop the skills that will help us to grow and expand our knowledge, leaving a legacy of culture, tradition, technology, environment, harmony and rhythm for future generations to enjoy and learn. As I always say, "If the life on earth vanish completely, the only trace of existence will be what is left of architecture."

What should architectural internship be? First, we should be conscience of who we are and where are we going as an architect. We have a great responsibility in our hands and we should literally put our hands on the job. By getting more involved with the community and being aware of the societal needs as a whole, architects can with that knowledge to create an architecture that will last longer than the construction material warranty. We should be encouraged to be more environmentally sensitive as a creator, instead of being a repetitive instrument or tool to accomplish zoning and code requirements. We should be exposed different cultures and experience new perspectives about designs, instead of trying to mimic an existing trademark. We should be freely informed of what is going on architecturally throughout the country, to help us to project a better understanding of the economy in the market place.

If I could change one thing about architectural internship, it would be the at ease, sit back and watch attitude that most architecture firms offer to the new generation of architects. Instead, interns should go out and engage the objective with what we learned at school, experiences and perhaps to comprehend deeply where we stand in our profession. If we can just spread our motivation about architecture, we will realize that it is not a matter of creating, it's a matter of how we create.

Architecture is not music to blow our brain out to fulfill a moment, it's music to relax and enjoy every second of our existence.

We should always keep the motivation to allow us to go far and beyond of what we already know.

AMEN
